1What is the difference between SEO, GEO and AIO?
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) focuses on ranking your pages in Google's traditional organic results. It has been the core of digital marketing for 20 years and still drives the majority of organic traffic.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) focuses on getting your brand cited by AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini when users ask questions relevant to your product or service. It is a new discipline targeting a new and growing discovery channel.
AIO (AI Overview Optimisation) focuses specifically on getting your content featured inside Google's AI-generated answers that now appear at the top of many search results - above all organic listings. 2Do I need Omni SEO or just regular SEO?
It depends on your audience and category. If your customers are primarily older demographics using only Google for search, traditional SEO may be sufficient in the short term. If your customers include any significant proportion of younger buyers, tech-savvy professionals or B2B decision-makers, they are already using AI tools to research options - which means single-channel SEO is leaving customers on the table.

3How do you get a brand cited in ChatGPT or Perplexity?
LLMs (large language models) draw their knowledge from web content, authoritative sources and real-time web search in the case of tools like Perplexity. GEO works by strengthening the signals these systems use to identify credible, relevant brands: authoritative external mentions from trusted publishers, structured brand entity data, well-cited statistics and research, and content that directly answers the types of questions AI users ask.
There is no direct API or shortcut to "add" your brand to ChatGPT's responses. It is earned through the same authority signals that influence Google rankings - but optimised for how LLMs parse and represent information rather than how search algorithms rank pages. We track citation frequency monthly and iterate content based on what is and is not being picked up.
4How long until I appear in AI Overviews?
AI Overview appearances typically begin within 4 to 8 weeks of content optimisation, depending on the query and how quickly Google recrawls and re-evaluates the updated pages. Queries where Google currently features AI Overviews with no strong clear source are the fastest to penetrate. Queries where established authoritative sources already dominate the AIO take longer.
We monitor AI Overview appearances weekly across your target query set and report on inclusions, changes and losses. Content is iterated based on what Google is featuring vs. skipping, using a test-and-learn approach that improves inclusion rates over time.
5Will AI Overviews hurt my organic traffic?
AI Overviews do suppress click-through rates for the organic results below them - particularly for informational queries where the AIO answers the question fully. Studies have shown organic CTR drops of 15 to 35% for queries where an AI Overview appears. This is real and it is happening now.
The response is not to ignore it but to be inside the AI Overview rather than below it. Brands featured in AI Overviews maintain visibility and often receive higher-intent clicks because the AIO provides context that sends motivated users to explore further. 6How is progress measured across all three channels?
